    Abstract:

Soils permeability, derived from Quaternary red clay soil and red sandstone on three positions of upland are measured by Guelph method in hilly area of south China. The results show that values of saturated hydraulic conductivity of 0-5 cm top soils in down slope are always higher than that in up slope, no matter what kind of land use. It also increases with the increment of plant cover degree in grasses upland, and the relations of top soils permeability on the three positions of tilled upland can be arranged in value as follows: down slope>up slope>mid slope.
