The authors defined an index of soil erosion severity,calculated its value for each county,and analyzed index classification.Based on these works,745 counties with sever soil erosion in China were presented.The area and distribution of soil erosion for the counties prove the index of soil erosion severity.The index is the weighted mean of erosion degree and area,which not only reflects erosion area in the round,but also discriminates each grade of soil erosion severity.
